Y7 Drama Club students enjoyed a visit to The Garrick Theatre to see a play called ‘Coming to England’.

The play depicted the events in the early life of Floella Benjamin focussing on her move from Trinidad to London in the 1950s.

It was an upbeat, lively and funny production that explored diversity, multi-culturalism, tolerance, and the importance of resilience; pitched appropriately for young audiences.

It also had great songs that the audience enjoyed clapping along to, and a vibrant scene set at the Notting Hill carnival.

Richard Hughes, Head of Drama, said: “We are grateful to Sophie Allen, the Community Engagement Officer at The Garrick theatre for inviting our student to attend. This was wonderful way for the club to start their first term at our school and the students are now even more excited to get onto our theatre stage and start performing themselves.”
