As part of our Focus Week programme we celebrate Dyslexia Awareness Week to draw our students attention to the challenges facing many of their peers as they negotiate day-to-day lessons and life.
This special week included assemblies outlining the challenges of dyslexia and students and staff with the condition talked about their experiences
This Focus Week is all part of the ‘Who Are We’ focus for 2024-2025 which seeks to raise awareness of the varied and different challenges facing one another as we plough on through our schooldays.
Our school holds a Dyslexia Friendly Quality Maker after being assessed by the British Dyslexia Association. You can read more about this award here.
Lottie Hearn, Deputy Headteacher, said: “We are very keen to develop the empathy skills in our students and by sharing our vulnerabilities and challenges we can elicit support and encouragement from our peers. All of have our challenges, and by understanding what other people face, we can become better equipped as human beings to provide a caring approach. Dyslexia is a barrier but, with the right approach and support, it can be overcome, and we are delighted that our dyslexia students consistently perform very well in their studies.”
