Martin Carroll, Group IT Security Director at IMI plc, visited our school to deliver an excellent careers awareness assembly looked at the structured approach within a skilled cyber security team and the ways they work in order to protect against cyber-attacks.

Martin shared his career history and knowledge with our Year 12 Sixth Form students, and offered information about career route options and the advantages of apprenticeship route opportunities.

This is very much a growing field and two successful Year 13s from last year headed off to university to study in this sphere in September.

This valuable employer encounter gave a serious message about the threat of hackers and viruses, along with great insight into how the digital world needs protecting. Inspired students who have aspirations to work within IT and cyber security careers sector had plenty of questions about how to maximise enrichment and learning opportunities to help them move forward with this area of expertise. Students were very excited by the prospect of gaining further education through higher degree level apprenticeships that maybe available to them in the future.

Faye Bullock, Careers Co-Ordinator, said: “Careers in cyber security continue to grow in the increasingly fast moving digital world we live in, which is why it is more important than ever to find out more about the cyber security skills labour market, and look at these exciting careers and future apprenticeship opportunities in this area.”
