As part of our Focus Week programme and our statutory respsonbility to deliver sex and relationship education in our school, we celebrated Sexual Health Week in school.

We staged a series of age-appropriate assemblies and tutor activities for students in Y7-11.

We also be collapsed the timetable for Year 9 for two lessons, so that those students could attend a carousel of four sex and relationship workshops. These looked at STDs, Contraception, Readiness for Sex and Social Media Awareness.

Elsewhere, targeted Year group sessions included work on puberty, sexuality, coercion, the law,  abuse and domestic violence.

We also contacted parents to map out the programme and to share a range of website links which would help parents to discuss topics at home with their children. Our school responsibilities in this area are only replicated by those held by parents who have the greatest responsibility in making sure their children are aware, secure and safe.

Helen Barratt, Assistant Headteacher and PSHE Co-Ordinator, said: “The sessions were hugely valuable and the students got a lot out of them. The students addressed the topics with interest, positivity and respect and the age-appropriate coverage means we can support students developing their awareness in a responsible and staggered way.”
