This week the Year 11 Engineers visited Alton Towers and had an amazing time whilst also learning a great deal. All students fully embraced the opportunity to experience a fun aspect of Engineering outside of the classroom.
The visit was very much an opportunity to apply theory to a practical setting and took the workshop experiencing into the arena of teenage fun and excitement.
Alison Cartwright, Head of DT & Art, said; “It is sometimes hard for students to associate Engineering with anything other than workshop manufacturing and to have this resource on our door steps really opens their eyes beyond their initial perceptions. In addition to this it’s a great way to provide the students with a first-hand experience of one of their exam themes as it enables them to make their own comparisons between the traditional and modern materials which can be used for rides, they can get up close to analyse the structures and can also observe all of the safety precautions which are required.”
