On a beautiful, sunny evening, Lichfield Hockey Club opened its gates to a fantastic Year 8 and 9 Hockey Festival for both girls and boys. The event was a great success, with three local schools – Friary, King Edward’s, and Queen Mary’s Grammar School – coming together to showcase some excellent hockey talent.
The competition was fierce but friendly, with all schools displaying great teamwork and determination. In the end, King Edward’s emerged as the overall winner of the festival. However, Friary put up a strong battle, with impressive goals from Josh Hunt and Harry Henshall. Lennox Osbourne came tantalizingly close to adding another to their tally, narrowly missing out on a goal.
The overall players of the tournament were awarded to Harry Milsom for his outstanding debut performance and Izzy Bridges who shone brightly throughout the event.
Kim Fallows, head coach, said: “It was especially heartening to see some new faces on the pitch, with many first-time players proudly representing their schools. A big well-done goes to Harry Milsom and Zaine Carsen, who made their debut for Friary and played with great spirit and enthusiasm. Congratulations to everyone who took part, and we look forward to more exciting action next week when we see the Year 9 teams take the stage.”
