Our school cohort is an exciting and varied mix and we have a growing number of children in the school who speak second languages to English at home.

We were approached by a group parents asking if their children could undertake qualifications – GCSEs or otherwise – in them and as part of celebrating their mastery and ident we were happy to support.

Consequently, we have seen students sit exams in a series of subjects including Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian.

Charlie Simpson, Head of MFL, said: “If any children / parents wish to pursue courses – whether formally examined or not – then we are very happy to support the process. We have a good rate of students taking GCSE French – and these languages are usually in addition to that – but the accreditation, celebration and pride that comes with the courser successes is a valuable component in building confidence and ambitious in our students. Communication is a critical skill for work and life and the more we can do to encourage and enable this, the better.”
