As part of the Raising Aspirations Programme, a selection of Year 8 students took part in a 5 week interactive skills workshop. The workshops are designed to develop students awareness of employability skills, along with helping them identify their own skills and strengths. The 5-week programme was delivered in partnership with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) by Schools Advisor Jayne Young.

During the workshops students covered the below topics and got hands on with team building activities:

* Getting to know each other & why do people want to work
* Let us talk about work – job terminology
* What are skills & why are behaviours important – what am I good at
* Wellbeing & confidence
* It’s good to be different – #brand U
* Importance of active listening and following the rules
* Team working skills

Helen Barratt, Assistant Headteacher & Careers Leader, said: “We work with the DWP annually and they put on excellent sessions to support our students in thinking about their future life in the world of work. The sessions are very valuable and the students take a lot from them.”
