The annual swimming gala took place at Cheslyn Hay Leisure Centre on Friday and we had secured one of the 6 lanes on offer to compete.

We arrived with 25 pupils’ boys and girls from Years 7-9 ready to compete in 38 races, including individual 50m and 25-meter relays. Each race had 12 points up for grabs, with a minimum of 2 points available for having entering.

The morning got off to fantastic start, with our Year 7 girls (4x25m Front Crawl) finishing 1st in the Front Crawl relay. This followed by a number of top 3 finishes in a majority of the races, including strokes that pupils offered to step up and push them out of their comfort zone to help secure us points for entering the race.

Other results to mention are: Sophie Smith fingertip 1st in the 50m Breast Stroke, Esme Morris secured 1st in the 50m Breast Stroke, Niamh Thompson came 1st in the 50m Butterfly, Poppy O’Sullivan glided to victory in the 50m Butterfly and Henri Gathergood was pipped to the post in the 50m Breaststroke with the last touch.

Our Year 7 girls also claimed their second relay win of the day in the medley relay (Esme Morris, Sophie Antcliffe, Boh Carr and Elizabeth Flint).

Hollie Wright, team coach, said: “Overall, The Friary School scored 206 points and finished in 3rd place. The students had a great morning representing the school and as always did our school proud.”
