Y12 students were taken on a trip of the University of Birmingham in order to open their eyes to the possibilities of Higher Education.
The visit included a tour of the site and opportunities to talk to student ambassadors. Indeed, one of the ambassadors was Lucy Stothert, a former Friary student, who has just finished her pharmacy degree and could well explain the journey from The Friary Sixth Form Centre to the university library!
The excursion was linked into the Y12 UCAS Workshop we had conducted and our Y12 UCAS Evening which welcomed parents in to talk about the university route. We also brought in Ask Apprenticehsips to map out this fantastic alternative route and the University of Aberystwyth to talk through student finance..
Helen Barratt, Assistant Headteacher, said: “This trip was a part of our wider Careers and Aspirations Programme. We place a great importance to making sure our students understand their destination so they see the relevance and importance of giving their all now. Every lesson matters in the step-by-step progression to Higher Education and/or employment.”
