A fantastic afternoon at Aldersley Athletics Village saw Year 7-9 students participate in the Cannock & District Athletics Championships.

The success was built on the foundations of putting in their hard work in PE lessons, athletics sessions after school, and the previous Aldersley competitions.

Consequently, the tough weather conditions did not stop our boys and girls winning events, getting personal bests and supporting the rest of our Friary students.

There were a swathe of fantastic individual performances and 1st place finishes for:

Callie Meakin (Y9) – Hurdles
Noah Bowers (Y8) – Hurdles
Olli Burnside (Y9) – 800m
Tara Williamson (Y7) – 100m
Jensen McLaughlin (Y9) – 100m
Ellie Irvine (Y9) – 100m & High Jump
Alfie Bedlow (Y9) – 1500m
Lewis Snowden (Y9) – 200m & Long Jump
Ed Stockton (Y9) – Shot Putt
Penny Galway (Y9) – Discus
Noah Malpass (Y7) – Long Jump
Fraser Neenan (Y9) – Javelin
Aimee Irvine (Y9) – Javelin
Oliver Thompson (Y7) – Javelin
Esme Morris (Y7) – Javelin

Elsewhere, there were a further 24 2nd and 3rd places too.

Unfortunately, the rain fell heavier as the afternoon went on meaning the track was too unsafe to do the relay.

Jamie Sleigh, PE teacher and team coach, said: “Some events are yet to release final standings but we are proud of all students involved and we are confident we have retained the title. We await final results which will be out next week, and we would like to thank all students who took part today and over the last few weeks, along with parents who have travelled to support the team.”
