We are producing a series of articles to help parents to support their children facing GCSEs this Summer.
There are 3 Geography (AQA) papers and they are straight-forward if your child puts the revision in.
Your child can revise by printing of the following booklets – at home or at school – and filling them in using their exercise book notes and from online websites Iike BBC Bitesize – click here – which has content directly matched to the course your child is doing.

Paper Three:
This exam paper covers a specific case study and the students get given some materials form the Exam Board that describe the topic. This exam is part comprehension (so reading the information and answering questions from it) and part applying what you know from your Geography lesson to the case study.
You can make notes on and highlight the information sheets given to them by the Exam Board – and take them into the exam – and they are covering this in class at the moment. You have a copy of this and it was also uploaded to Satchel One.
Also, in Paper 3 there will be some work on a field work that the exam make up – you study it and answer questions in it.

Lastly, in the Paper 3 exam you have to answer questions on the two locations you have been two on your Geography field trips.
You went to Cotton Dell to do physical field work – where you investigated how the discharge and sediment size changed along the course of the river.

You also went to Birmingham to do human field work – where you investigated the effectiveness of urban greening strategies.

You need to make sure you know the purpose of fieldwork, methods (strengths and limitations) used to collect data, data presentation methods (graphs, reasons for choice of graphs, strengths and limitations), conclusion and evaluation of field work.
This paper is straight-forward than it sounds – as long as you prepare the notes for the exam, revise the two trips you went on, and think about how the skills you sue din Birmingham and Cotton Dell can be linked to the exam field work questions then you’ll do very well.
Extra Revision Help:
A good revision book is this GCSE Geography Revision Booklet which covers most of the course. You can see it here.
As well as the BBC Bitesize revision website which is especially for the exam papers we do – click here – you can also access a wide range of Geography revision videos here.
Susan Gisbourne, Head of Geography, said: “The students have been made aware of all of these materials – have received many of them too – and they have been well taught. If they revise hardy now then there is no reason they cannot do very well indeed.”
