Our Year 9 Netball had their last fixture of the year at their annual tournament. On arrival we found ourselves in Pool A and had 3 games ahead of us.

First up was EDA and we had a large percentage of possession but missed lots of shots. This allowed chance for our other two shooters to take their turn on court and got all the girls warmed up. We won 2-0 but did not help our goal difference when we could have scored highly.

Our second game was against King Edwards. Previous experience meant the girls were very motivated going into this match but had a new aim – keep possession and not give away the ball. The game started fairly and a goal each, helped settle the nerves. King Edwards took advantage of a mix of poor passes and they took the lead to 5-1. However, we kept at our goal and goal after goal we clawed back a 5-5 draw! Our strong defence continually put KES under pressure and as the game went on we accelerated and took every opportunity in our end and netted all our chances.

The last pool game was against Cannock Chase. Our spirits were high from the results so far and the game got off to another fabulous start. However, CCHS didn’t give up and fought all game. A last-minute goal took us just over the line with a 3-2 win.

These results meant we qualified for the in semis and Kingsmead were our opponents. We sadly didn’t get much possession and Kingsmead didn’t miss any shooting opportunities. This ended in our first defeat, falling 4 goals short.

Hollie Wright, team coach, said: “The overall results – finishing 4th overall was fantastic and reflected the girl’s attitude and work ethic this year. The girls worked superbly and continued to support every other throughout. The girls can’t wait to for next year already!”
