Having re-arranged our league match against Nether Stowe, and with great numbers coming to after school club, we managed to take 22 girls with us to play. Due to these great numbers, we split the girls into 3 teams and each took their turn playing against our local rivals Nether Stowe.
First up – Team Red. Once the nerves settled and the flow got going the girls produced excellent movement up and down the court. Our defence didn’t allow Nether Stowe much time up our end, resulting in them not scoring a goal. We controlled most of the game, with most possession of the ball, and managed to score a massive 13 goals. Excellent teamwork from the whole group. Well done Team Red.
Next, Team Blacks turn – for most this was their first time playing a school match, but the game was played brilliantly and the communication from the girls who had previous experience was useful. Half-time allowed team talks to happen and plans to be discussed – and how this helped! The girls walked away with another win 7-0.
Lastly, Team Yellow. This was all of the girls first Netball game for school, but what a fantastic experience it was. New rules explained, tactics explored and even a goal to top off their great work and progress. However, this ended in a 1-1 draw but the result was irrelevant as the learning that took place and the beaming smiles equalled a win!
Hollie Wright, team coach, said: “Overall, a fantastic evening and the staff couldn’t be prouder of our netballers. A special mention to all the parents who also came to watch. We love and appreciate the support.”
