As part of our on-going Safeguarding and child safety work we were made aware of the work of the Rail Safe Friendly Team and the importance of promoting to children the need to behave carefully and responsibly around rail lines.

We have shared the awareness videos and campaign information with students and parents and have promoted the message of rail safety around the school too and this has achieved the Bronze Award.

Indeed, we have also almost got the Silver Award to as we have fulfilled the Bronze criteria, promoted the Switched On Railway website – which can be viewed here – on our social media platforms and we have made our fellow schools in the Trust aware of the work of the Rail Safe Friendly Team.

Lottie Heard, Deputy Headteacher, said: “There are such a lot of projects that schools are asked to promote with students but with a network of local rail lines in our district we felt this was an important message to draw attention to. We make our children’s welfare the highest priority whether it is during the school day, on the walk home, over the weekends, or even in the middle of the summer holidays, so if we can run projects that keep them happy and safe when they are out of our immediate care then that is well worth doing.”
