Our annual Battle of the Bands competition saw a face-off between Rock Anthems and Britpop as approaching 20 acts hit the theatre stage to entertain a sell-out audience.

There was an eclectic mix of songs – ranging from Blur’s archetypal-Britpop ‘Park Life’ to Derek & The Dominoes’ iconic ‘Layla’ – and though all of the songs were before students were born there was plenty from their Sportify playlists and for parents well used to bucket hats to enjoy.

The event is fortunate to be connected with Lichfield’s Fuse Festival and the best acts are invited to perform on various stages – with Year 8 band ‘The Vengeance’ now graduating the main stage for this summer.

Matt Allman, Headteacher, said; “We have such an array of talent in our school that we could put this event on each week and still fill the theatre. It is fantastic to give students the chance to perform on a stage – and we follow through on this with the Summer Sizzler – but to see our musicians blossom onto our city’s stage is a great thrill.”
