On a chilly evening that saw dedicated parents braving the cold to support their young athletes, a gripping hockey match unfolded between the Non-Bibs and the Bibs at Lichfield Hockey Club. The closely contested game showcased the talents of both teams, with a dramatic turn of events in the second half leading to a 2-1 victory for the Bibs.

The first half of the match was evenly sided, with both teams displaying commendable skill and determination on the frosty pitch. The crowd witnessed several near misses and impressive saves from Noah Bowers, the schools GK, keeping the score line level. However, it was the Non-Bibs who broke the deadlock just before halftime when Josh Hunt netted a goal, taking the score to 1-0 in their favour.

As the teams re-grouped for the second half, the Bibs emerged with renewed energy. Their persistence paid off when they managed to break through the Non-Bibs defence, earning a short corner opportunity. Seizing the moment, Sam Derrick (Y8) executed a precise shot, levelling the score at 1-1 and injecting a new sense of energy into the game.

With the tension escalating in the final minutes, it was Sam McCaskie (Y8) who proved to be the hero for the Bibs. Sam unleashed a spectacular shot, a blinder, that found the back of the net, securing a 2-1 victory for the Bibs and sending their supporters into jubilation.

After the game, Kim Fallows, team coach, expressed her satisfaction, stating, “It’s always nice to see how keen and enthusiastic the players are, but seeing new and upcoming ones too.”

The coach highlighted the debut performances of Lennox Osbourne, Jack Stainforth, and Osama Alashi, acknowledging their contributions to the school team. The Player of the Match was awarded to Olivia Eggington (Y8), who demonstrated excellent defensive skills throughout the game.
