As a warm up in preparation for an upcoming U18’s match, the U15 girls pencilled in a friendly against their local rivals Lichfield Cathedral.
Initially the girls had an established and strong team but unfortunately a number of last minute drop-outs saw the team with limited substitutions and this was compounded by a nasty injury in the early stages of the game. We wish Olivia Flint a speedy recovery and hope to see you back on the pitch soon.
Cathedral who turned up with a team of 15 used this to their advantage and pressured the Friary defence on a number of occasions scoring an early goal in the first half.
Despite the score line, Friary battled through and from the second half whistle made some awesome breaks down the wing seeing Hannah Norton take on the goalie to only be denied and the shot going wide. This gave the girls confidence to keep pressing and had a number of chances and short corners but just couldn’t fire the ball home.
Kim Fallows, team coach, said: “Amongst some excellent performances, Aimee Meakin (Y10) was awarded Player of the Match due to her outstanding contribution and battling in defence. It was her first, full pitch game and her performance was great.”
