Our Under 18s girls’ footballers laced up their boots and travelled to EDA for their first league game of the season.
The game got off to a decent start, with chances being taken by both teams, and saw the goalies make some fabulous saves. On the stroke of half time, EDA got one past our goalie, but was called for offside. The same repeated itself just after the restart, again – offside.
The play in the middle of the pitch and up the wings was excellent but faced constant competition. Not long after EDAs second disallowed goal, a through ball to Imogen Marchesi saw her hit the back of the net. But you guessed it – offside! There was a little lack of communication that didn’t allow us to take all the chances, but with good teamwork in defence we walked away undefeated.
Hollie Wright, team coach, said: “Player of the Match was Amelia Barratt whose speed down the left wing, while outwitting their defence and playing excellent balls into the box numerous times, was excellent. There were some controversial decisions which left the game at 0-0, but it was great to see the girls back out the pitch representing Friary again.”
