The first House Week of the year saw Seward House raising money for Midlands Air Ambulance, a local charity they have supported for 5 years.

In July, Seward students visited Midlands Air Ambulance and saw one of the helicopters. During the visit, staff from MAA informed our students that each helicopter travels on average 600 miles a week saving many lives across the Midlands. This information then got Head of House and Seward Student Leaders thinking of a fundraising event we could do during this year’s house week. During House Council meetings when returning to school in September, they decided that Seward students could participate in a Seward Sponsored Cycle.

Seward students who wanted to be part of the cycle got a 15-minute slot throughout the week to cycle the 600-mile target, set by Midlands Air Ambulance. This event was a huge success and something that all Seward students who were involved should be proud of.

Seward students and staff smashing the 600-mile target by cycling 778.7 miles in a week, raising lots of money throughout the week. When collecting in sponsorship money, Mr Sleigh was blown away by the commitment of all Seward students, wanting to collect in sponsorship money to motivate them during the cycle. The amount of money raised form this was absolutely phenomenal.

Other events throughout the week were also a huge success and adding to our overall total. ‘I’m a Celeb/Teacher’ Seward style, which saw the theatre full of students from all Houses and year groups watching 4 members of staff face their fears – whether it was bugs, foods or anything else that could be thrown at them.

Cake sales throughout the week were another success along with the ‘Trick or Treat’ box with a variety of gifts available. Meanwhile, Friday saw House Captain, Matt Allen, Vice-Captain, Josh Hill and other members of the House Council team making hot chocolates for staff and students. A great way to end a very successful week- thanks to all students in other houses for their contributions too.

Jamie Sleigh, Head of Seward House, said: “The week was a huge success but also a week full of enjoyment. Last year’s House week was a success but this week was more enjoyable for me, lots of Seward students joining together to smash the sponsored cycle and helping out with other events throughout the week. We ended the week with a great student led assembly by 9S2 and it was an excellent week to celebrate the fantastic students I have in my House. We have raised a record £2058.15 for Midlands Air Ambulance and it’s a huge thanks to all the parents and families for supporting what we have done in school for a great local charity.”
