The first netball fixture of the year saw us travelling to Chase Terrace Academy for a Year 11 Netball Tournament.
For the first game, we came up against our local rivals and this got the adrenaline pumping. It’s always a tough fixture and ended up being a tough start for the girls, however they still played amazingly and netted a few, and got the girls warmed up. This was followed by another loss against Cardinal Griffin, but we continued to build on our confidence and the game was starting to flow nicely.
The highlight of the evening was a great match against Chase High which we won 13-0. A combination of excellent positioning, perfect timed passes, and a tough defence.
The final game finished in a close match against Chase Terrace, but we unfortunately fell 2 short of their total.
The ‘Player of the Tournament’ award went to Lauren Lee, who supported her team with excellent shotting, was the perfect captain and motivator for her team.
Hollie Wright, team coach, said: “Many of the girls who played tonight were from Year 10, and although they were very nervous about playing against the older year, it was a great experience and has helped them prepare for their own tournament in a few weeks. These matches did acknowledge areas of weakness but this being our first game of the season, we now know what we need to practise and be better prepared. Overall, the girls came 4th which they should be very proud of.”
“In addition, a special thank you also needs to go to two Year 12 Sport Leaders – Katie Newton and Jazmine Tilling – who came along to help manage the fixture.”
