As part of the Engineering exam, students will be asked questions in relation to the design and build of rollercoasters.
Being based so close to Alton Towers, this was a perfect opportunity for the Year 11 engineers to go and gain some first-hand experience.
Whilst at the park, as well as enjoying the rides, students researched health and safety, structures, effects, and forces and will be presenting their findings in lessons.
Alison Cartwright, Head of DT & Art, said: “I think it is safe to stay that despite the weather everyone had an enjoyable and insightful day. The leisure industry is a massive sector and recognising the engineering and industrial side of things was a real eye-opener for the students. It is going to be much easier for them to know contextualize their exam questions when they can apply them to what they have seen on this trip.”
