We know that Lichfield Swimming Club are a fantastic local training club so with a school full of talent we took up a place in the annual regional swimming gala which was staged at Cheslyn Hay School.

We took 28 students from Years 7-10 to represent the school and there were 38 races in total – allowing the students to enter up to 2 individual events and 2 relays each.

Every student swam so well, with standout individual performances for Niamh Thompson – 1st in 50m Butterfly, Poppy Goldstone – 1st in 50 Breaststroke and 50m Fly, Henri Gathergood – 1st in 50m Breaststroke, Lewis Dickinson – 1st in 50m Butterfly and Amelia Hurst – 1st in 50m Backstroke.

Teamwork also shone with more success in the Year 8 girls front crawl relay, Year 8 girls medley and the 6 girls (2 from each year) smashed the Front crawl, Cannon, again finishing first.

Hollie Wright, team coach, said: “There were also many 2nd and 3rd places that helped us collected lots of points and they all resulted in us finishing overall in 1st place. Well done to every student that took part – their commitment allowed us to enter every race which was a key factor in taking he overall victory by 4 points!. We are delighted for the students and thrilled they have had this opportunity to compete an shine.”
