As part of our Focus Week we turned our attention to National Insect Week as we encouraged out students to reflect on the world and climate around them and to understand the integral role insects play in our current day-to-day life, as well as how things might change moving forward.

The Focus Week had special lessons, tasting tests on various bugs, assemblies and tutor time activities, and various quizzes and competitions.

Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “The week created a real fuss – not least the insect tasting which pointed the way to the protein sources of the future. Watching a student much down a cricket or a worm was huge fun – as they summoned up the courage, bite down with grimace, before realising it was not quite as bad as they thought it might be. We very much try to provide a curriculum that makes our students think in a different way and this Focus Week very much ticked that box.”
