Following last week’s athletics achievements and results showing The Friary at the top of the table, we arrived in high spirits at Aldersley Stadium to succeed again.

Two pupils from each Year group took part in the track and field events across the afternoon, with some even trying new events to help gain us points. The weather allowed the jumps to return along with the hurdles which is how the afternoon got underway.

The final results will be again be correlated and sent over in the coming days, however stand out performances came from Georgia Griffiths who finished 1st in both the 1500m and 75m hurdles. Harley Carson who came 1st in the 800m and 2nd in the 300m. George Marshall finishing 1st in his 400m heat, Morgan Evans finishing 1st in the 300m heat ,and Henry McCarthy left behind the rest of the field in a fantastic 100m.

In the field events Rhys Wynne came 1st in the Discus, Libbie Joyce threw the furthest and finished 1st in the Javelin, and after a debut effort for both Morgan Evans and George Burgess in the triple jump, we walked away with Gold and Silver.

Hollie Wright, team coach, said: “The Year 9s have a chance to shine again next week, with Year 7’s having their first opportunity to represent the school. Athletics clubs is on Monday after school and allows practise of the events and the chance to be chosen to compete against the rest of the district”
