We have been consulting with tutor groups via the House and Vice Captains about the function and purpose of the school planner.

This was an aspect of school life students were keen to voice ideas about and they made a number of excellent suggestions which we are planning to adopt for September.

The students felt that the weekly ‘planner signing’ was no longer necessary as parents can see what homework has been set via Satchel One (Show My Homework). Parents can also use Edulink to see if there have been any issues with homework having not been completed.

Another request was for important dates such as Parents’ Evenings and non-uniform days to be included.

Also, the students suggested slimming down the spaces to write homework. Many agreed these were useful as a diary for reminders so wanted to keep them.

Finally, the students were unanimous in their agreement that the information at the front of the planner was very useful. They suggested rebranding the planner as a ‘Student Handbook’ instead.

Sam Sullivan, Assistant Headteacher, said, “The students came up with some really sensible ideas which we are keen to put in place for next year. We received a lot of feedback from the tutor groups to discuss; it is clearly something that matters to students. Many thanks to Maddie Walters (11S1), Tommy Baines (9S1), Annie Hadley (11J2), Rosie Walker (9J2), Lauren Mace (11D2), Isabelle Webb (9D1) and Sophie Rogers (9G2) – our House and Vice Captains – for leading the discussion.”
