We had another care home visit with a different group of Year 10 students from our Health & Social Care course.

The group who came to the visit were in full craft mode, they were helping residents with a variety of different tasks.

This is an invaluable experience for students as they see first-hand the course content from Component 1 in practice: from the safeguarding to the decline of help and mobility with age.

They also have experienced the care values we covered in Component 2 and put into practice the respect and communication skills along with many more during the visit.

Trudy Simkiss, trip organiser, said: “The afternoon had a coronation theme where bunting was created. Along with crown pictures, word searches and a monarch matching game. They students and residents also continued last week’s idea of creating bookmarks for their Dementia Book Club. I know the care home staff and residents look forward to our visits and that our students enjoy it as much as I and the residents do.”
