As part of our Raising Aspirations Programme, our Year 10 students have taken part in a two-day employability programme consisting of a employability workshop and mock interviews.
The sessions included information from a professional group of volunteers who visited the school to talk about employability skills, creating a positive first impression and interview skills. The interactive sessions were designed to give students a valuable experience and to get a real sense of what is expected at an interview. This practice has given the students a great experience ensuring they are better prepared for job interviews, university, apprenticeship or college.
We are thrilled to receive great feedback from the students and volunteers about these sessions:
* “The interviewers were really encouraging, they gave me feedback on how I came across in the interview to help me understand more about what I am good at and what to improve on so I come across the best I can in a future interview. I found the sessions helpful giving me good advice to use.”
* “The mock interview has given me a real confidence boost, I feel more prepared in how to present myself in a real interview scenario.”
Faye Banks, Careers and Aspirations Co-Ordinator, said: “The employability workshops and mock interviews have given students valuable knowledge and understanding of the process and will prove of great use in the future to them. We are grateful to the professional volunteers who have supported the programme.”
