As part of our wide curriculum, the Royal Horticultural Society has awarded us their Level 4 School Gardening Award.

This five-level rewards scheme provides achievable goals which will help you turn your garden into a valuable learning resource. Each level is achieved by submitting written reports and photos.

The Level 4 Award requires that students can: (i) use tools like a professional gardener; (ii) know how to protect your plants against the weather, pests and diseases; (iii) can plan seasonally to harvest produce throughout the year; (iv) know how to use the produce from your garden; and (v) raise funds to buy seeds, plants and equipment for your garden.

Natalie Brickett, school gardening leave and curriculum award organiser, said: “After the success of last year with cooking from our own produce, meeting and learning from Lichfield parks gardeners and our sales at The Summer Sizzler we’ve achieved Level Four. One level left to go. Well done to our students for giving their time and working hard at our after-school club.”

Lottie Hearn, Deputy Headteacher, added: “The Gardening Club has been doing fantastic work and this programme ties into our broader mental health and well-being package. Working with nature is a fantastic way to work, enjoy and calm and so we have been very keen to support this initiative. We are waiting for a few funding bids to drop – and depending on their outcome – we are then hopefully looking to expand the site for this club’s work and draw even more children in to it.”
