Things looked fine at 5.30am this morning on the early site check and the forecast did not suggest the worst either.

However, as the day wore on the weather conditions deteriorated and along with many local schools we were forced to make the decision to close the school at 11.45am.

This decision was taken for a range of reasons including: site conditions, road conditions, worsening forecast (Amber Warning), school bus difficulties, and staff having their own children’s primary schools closing and needing to collect their children.

Most children have managed to get home but a few have remained with us as they await buses – which are being re-scheduled – or parents to re-jig work commitments.

Looking forward, the Year 9 Parents Evening tonight will go ahead virtually as usual.

Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “The decision to close our school is always a difficult one – we have spoken to many parents insisting we should close and one or two saying the opposite – so it is a total no-win. Certainly, with today’s school events like Bikeability, an Engineering Careers Experience and Johnson House Week is has been disappointing for us. The snow has abated for the moment so we will work to clear the site and provide an update for tomorrow as soon as we can. We will be open if we possibly can so presume this is the case unless you hear otherwise – worst case you will be told of a closure by 7.45am.” .
