On the back of Farmhouse Breakfast Week, we were in touch with Chris Brooke and Simon Spencer, linked in with the National Farmers Union (NFU), and they came in to give some students a presentation on Careers in Farming and to break stereotypes with what people think farmers do.

We carefully track students’ ambitions so were able to identify students with varied interests, some of which were directly linked to farming and agriculture, but also those interested in aspects like engineering and forestry. This meant we have forty Year 7-1 students in the talk. It was a great insight into the day-to-day job, but also the endless job options and opportunities within the wider agriculture industry.

Bex Oldfield, Assistant Headteacher, said: “It is fantastic that we have connections to local businesses and in this instance our local farming community came in to inspire and educate our students within the field of agriculture. Chris and Simon were excellent and we look forward to continuing to build work-related relationships to ensure our students are fully informed on their future pathways and careers.”
