Our school is proud to hold Holocaust Memorial Beacon School Status in association with University College London (UCL).

This status reflects our commitment to ensuing our students are fully aware of the Holocaust and the lessons we can learn for the future. We also work with external organisations, such as primary schools and the Holocaust Educational Trust, and stage a bi-annual visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp.

We also have a history of inviting in guest speakers on this theme – whether they be Holocaust survivors – or have connections to genocides elsewhere in the world. Last year we had a guest speaker in form the Ishami Foundation who talked about the Rwandan genocide.

This week will see exhibitions, assemblies, tutor time activities and projects related to the Holocaust.

Connor Perry, our Holocaust Beacon School Status Co-Ordinator, said: “We always pencil in Holocaust Memorial Day each year as a Focus Week and coincide our bigger Beacon School Status events projects with this week. We have lots of events running this week to commemorate and learn from the Holocaust. One of history’s most valuable roles is to offer lessons from the past to inform the behaviours of the future and educating young people about the Holocaust is crucial in creating a safe, tolerant and accepting society.”
