Our female PE teachers are always looking at new ways to inspire the students, especially with football. With the success in women’s football at the Euros, it really has helped girls PE to promote football within core PE lessons and during after-school clubs.

Following a recent school trip to Villa Park, Freya Gregory (Aston Villa Ladies player and also ex-Friary student), contacted the school to ask if she could become involved in some way as she was so happy to see so many Friary faces supporting the club and said: “it actually inspired me having the girls come to watch and support ladies’ football.”

Consequently, Freya came into school to offer an insight into professional football, and to share some of the training and skills she has picked up since gracing yesteryear’s school’s playfields and playgrounds.

Kim Fallows, organiser and PE teacher, said: “We are extremely lucky to have this opportunity of professional players coming into lessons to coach the girls and inspire them to play more football. Not only were the students buzzing, but the staff too, and everyone hugely appreciated the players taking the time to sign items at the students request during lunch time. Girls…watch this space, as Villa ladies are back for more coaching sessions.”
