At our recent Year 7 Partnership Evening, Steve Neale, one of our Safeguarding Leads, led a well-received presentation on the up-to-date risks and warning signs related to your child as they enter their teenage years and forge their online presence and experience.

There are lots of benefits of being online, but there are risks too and parents are crucial in monitoring, guiding and supporting their child to negotiate them all and to keep safe.

However, it is a rapidly changing world and many parents are slow to respond to new platforms and directions and so lose sight of what the current priorities are.

Stacey Walsh, Assistant Headteacher, said: “We would urge all parents to keep themselves updated on the latest trends online and to be ready to check their child’s conduct and understanding of the online world. When mistakes or problems emerge, parents are often asked that their child is involved so it pays to be ahead of the game and to maintain a regular dialogue and expectation.”
