Our school show saw four performance of ‘Collected Grimms Tales’ across three days – three evening performances and a matinee – and students from Year 7-13 played their part in creating a memorable sequence of shows which inspired a full range of emotions, whether it be fear, anticipation or laughter.

Grimms tales are a German Collection of fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm, Jacob and Wilhelm, and were first published in December 1812. Everyone is familiar with these stories, most notably Disney who have adapted a success of them including Cinderella and Snow White. They are so admired they are listed by UNESCO it its Memory of the World Registry.

The stories our students performed included ‘The Mouse, The Bird & The Sausage’, ‘Hansel & Gretel’, ‘The Musicians of Bremen’ and ‘The Golden Goose’.

Senior performers in their last year included Grace Williams, Evie Hulme and River Fernyihough, but with a streak of talent below them on display the future of school shows look like they are secure for some time to come next.

Richard Hughes, Head of Performing Arts and Director, said: “We were keen to take on Grimms because they are dark, yet amusing tales, which gave lots of opportunities for children to take on lead roles whatever their age or experience of performance. The students and staff involved works incredibly hard and we were delighted with the shows.”

Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “With COVID we have seen students miss out of show experiences and Grimms Tales’ scope allowed so many to take on their own lead roles. We were delighted to share it with some many parents and wider families and are looking forward to seeing the talent in Years 7-9 take the lead in the KS3 Show in the Summer Term.”
