The culmination of the 2022 Friary Ski Team season saw our Friary team competing against the best schools in the country at the British Schools Championships at Stoke on Trent.
Over 180 school children from across the UK were competing and the four Friary lads held their own in what was always going to be a tough day at the office. With new team members, and some of the youngest performers, they came 15th out of 19 teams.
Individually the boys were fantastic. Finn Pike (Y8) finished am impressive third in his age group. Also, Sean Whillis (Y10), the newest member of the team who has shown a brilliant attitude since joining the team in September and has improved beyond recognition, came in fifteenth in his age group. Noah Bailey (Y12) – who will openly admit he prefers snowboarding – battled hard again and improved his second run time by nearly half a second. Finally, Reece Pike (Y10) showed his true potential with a second run charge of 12.5 seconds, just over a second off the winner, but sadly straddled a gate on Run 1 and you need two runs to count.
Russ Pike, team manager, said: “’It’s been a great few months working with the lads and the team now move onto the real thing where some members will be training in the Alps and others enjoying family holidays on snow.”
Anybody interested in joining the team, please contact Mr Sleigh (jsleigh@friary.greywoodmst.co.uk) or team manager Russ Pike at info@adventuruss.co.uk. Training will continue every Thursday night at Swadlincote ski slope.
