As a warm up in preparation for tournaments to come the U16 girls team pencilled in a friendly against their local rivals.

A scratch team – affected by after-school boosters, school shows, etc – with only 10 players still put on a strong performance whilst falling to defeat.

Lichfield Cathedral who turned up with a team of 14 used this to their advantage and pressured the Friary defence on a number of occasions scoring 4 goals in the first half.

Despite the scoreline Friary battled through and from the second half whistle made some awesome breaks down the wing seeing Hannah Norton and Anne Pengelly take on the opposition putting them under pressure. This gave the girls confidence to keep pressing and had a number of chances of getting into the D but were denied.

The final score ended 6-2 – what a second half the girls had.

Kim Fallows, team coach, said: “It was a great team effort. Poppy Grimshaw (Y11) was awarded player of the match by the opposition due to her outstanding contribution and the goal scorers were Amelia Stothart (Y11) and Poppy Grimshaw (Y11).”
