We are pleased to announce that The Friary School has organised a clothes & shoe collection with Bag2School in order to raise funds for The Friary PTFA who help to raise money for exciting projects to support the school. This year they donated £20,000 to support the refurbishment of the school theatre which used daily by our students for assemblies, lessons and performances.
Bag2School is the UK’s leading textile recycler and fundraiser working with schools and since its inception in 2001 it has now paid out over £36 million.
As well as raising vitally needed funds for The Friary School, it also helps the environment by helping to divert unwanted textiles away from landfill. A recent DEFRA report has shown that textile collection schemes are helping to reduce the volume of textiles discarded as municipal solid waste. However, it is a fact that as a nation we still send 350,000 tonnes of textiles to landfill every year.
By getting involved in our Bag2School collection, you have an opportunity to sort through your cupboards and wardrobes and donate unwanted textiles – this can include adults’ and children’s clothes, shoes (tied together please), hats, belts, handbags and soft toys, (please refer to http://uk.bag2school.com/ for full details). In addition to raising much needed funds it will also raise awareness amongst the children of the benefits of recycling and reuse.
Please fill a tightly secured bin bag to donate your items and don’t forget to ask grandparents, friends and neighbours to have a sort out as well!
Bag2School will be collecting from The Friary School on Tuesday 15th November. Please bring your bag (or bags!) to reception from Monday 14th November and no later than 9.00am on Tuesday 15th November and help us have a really good collection.
Lottie Hearn, Deputy Headteacher, said: ” Bag 2 School is a great way for us to raise funds for our school whilst also helping everyone to have a good clear out at home! It’s an easy way for parents to get involved in fundraising for our PTFA whilst also helping the environment. Our PTFA work hard to provide a range of ways for parents to help support our school and raise money that we can use to fund projects that directly impact on the students. With school budgets being so tight and with the cost-of-living crisis adding to the pressure, any donations we receive are gratefully welcomed”.
