Each of our Houses chose local charities to support and fund-raise each year to help out our local community.

This year our staffing body have asked the question about why the students have all the fun so we have elected to support ‘Breast Cancer Now’ by launching a fund-raising event in school on 21 October.

Breast Cancer Now are changing the future of breast cancer and are trying to make sure that by 2050, everyone diagnosed with the disease lives, they are supported and well.

To get there they have fund raisers like ‘Wear it Pink’ which is on 21 October 2022, ‘Wear it Pink’ is helping to raise funds for world class research, to help prevent , treat and help people to live well with breast cancer.

We will raise awareness and funds, to create a future where no one loses someone they love to breast cancer.

The fund raising we give will make a difference:

* Funding a helpline, staffed by breast cancer care nurses, they offer information and support anyone affected by breast cancer – in 2020/21 10,345 calls were answered by these nurses.

* Providing an  after breast cancer treatment guide, 12,122 copies of this guide filled with information about how you might feel after treatment, how breast cancer can return, how to breast and body aware, this guide is a lifeline for people readjusting to everyday life.

* Provide a service ‘Someone like me’, used by 988 people in 2020/21, this is a service that connects people with breast cancer with someone who has been through a similar experience, letting them get support from somebody who really understands how they might feel.

As a staff, we are looking to give our students a treat through a Bake Off tasting session where staff will ask for donations for home-baked cake on Friday 21 October.

We have been supported by both Morrisons – who donated baking items – and Tesco’s who donated cakes.

All children / parents have to do is bring in some money to buy cakes on Friday 21 October and then eat them !

Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “This is a condition that has affected staff in our school and is one that all of us can empathise with. Cancer is a disease that all of us would like to see beaten and the chance to contribute towards this, and educate our students on the importance of appropriate awareness and sensitivity, is too good an opportunity to miss.”
