Our Year 7 students enjoyed an exciting trip to Warwick Castle, experiencing all the thrills of a local historical site! As part of their History upcoming ‘Medieval Life’ module, students had the opportunity to experience a stone keep castle first hand. They were able to enjoy entertainment such as an archery display, a battlements walk and the always thrilling bird show! They were given expert talks on the kinds of weapons that would be used to attack the castle, such as the trebuchet, as well as the various defences that the castle has, such as the moat and the portcullis.

Not only was the trip useful in terms of bringing the topic of the castle to life for students, but it also gave students an insight into their upcoming History HLA. In this HLA students will be designing their own castle, and thinking about the different ways they would defend it. The History Department are already eagerly anticipating seeing what the students come up with! Always worth noting that castles made out of cake do tend to receive extra marks…

Liam Rivers, Head of History, said: “The students’ were excited and upbeat throughout the trip and were fantastic. For many of them it was their first school trip owing to the disrupted last few years in education but they more than made up for lost time. They displayed great team-work in working through features such as the Horrible Histories maze, and were a credit to the school. Hopefully this will be the first of many trips they enjoy at The Friary!”
