On Tuesday 4 October we will be holding our Year 6 Open Evening. We will open our doors from 6.00pm onwards and welcome you into our school where you can meet our staff and students and get a taste of life at The Friary.
Our Headteacher will welcome you all and tell you a little bit about our school and our vision. There will be repeated presentations so if you arrive a little later you will still have the opportunity to hear about the school. He will give you a real insight into how we will support your child through some of their most important years in education. You will learn about our values, successes and plans for the future as well as gaining an understanding of how we will work in partnership once your child joins us in September 2023.
Just as important, and to back up the Headteacher’s words with your own experience of the site, students and staff, you will also be able to walk around our school and visit our different subject areas. Each subject will be providing demonstrations of learning opportunities and activities for your child to try. There will be experiments in Science, problem solving in Maths, singing in French, sports activities in PE, just to name a few of the things you will expect to see. Teachers will be available to answer any questions you might have and our students will also be there to guide you enthusiastically around our school and tell you how it really is!
Elsewhere, our PTFA will be providing refreshments, so why not talk to some of our existing parents and get their views on the opportunities that are available for your child at our school.
Lottie Hearn, Deputy Headteacher, said: “Choosing a secondary school can be an exciting but also a challenging time. We do not underestimate the thought and research that parents undertake when making such a big decision with their child. You know your child best, and by visiting us on open evening, we will give you a real indication as to whether our school feels right for you and your child.”
Matt Allman, Headteacher, added: “The evening is always a busy event and we love the opportunity to help communicate to families the offer we put together for our children. We hope to emphasise that we push learning, support, success, but as much as anything fun. After all, our students remain children, and whilst we take it as a priority that we prepare them for adulthood, we also appreciate they are not there yet. Certainly, whether you come along and decide our school is or is not for you, the experience will help every child and every family make their decision.”
