As part of their A-Level Biology course, Year 12 students ventured off to Twycross Zoo in order to meet tigers, giraffes, lemurs, snow leopard, meerkats and more besides.

The visit was part of their studies on biodiversity and classification of species and provided practical examples to apply to the theory covered in the course.

Twycross Zoo’s Conservation Welfare Fund contributes to over 50 conservation and welfare projects around the world and the visit opened the students’ eyes to a range of potential careers and volunteering routes.

Andrea Garner-Thorpe, Biology teacher and trip organiser, said: “We always look for opportunities to bring the theory into practice and this field trip is just part of a wider programme. The students had a fabulous day and we have lots to take forward as a group.”
