Last week saw Year 7 and 8 take part in their second round of the athletics competition at Aldersley Stadium.
Having driven through a rain shower on the way, we were pleased to see a dry track upon arrival with more than a dozen schools from Cannock and District ready to get started.
Two students from each Year group took part in the events across the afternoon. Against tough competition, The Friary students were fantastic and across the heats we finished on many podiums.
The final results will follow via email in the coming days; however there were stand out performances came from Georgia Griffiths who finished 1st in both 1500m and 75m Hurdles. Leila Wallis and Ellie Irvine finished 2nd in their 100m heats, Lauren Thacker finished 1st in the 200m, Harry Pilgrim finished the 800m in 3rd place and Lewis Snowdon finished 1st in his 100m heat. Fingers crossed for more top 3 finishes across the five field events that were taking part alongside the track races.
Jamie Sleigh, PE teacher and team coach, said: “Next week is the KS3 Championship and a chance to add more points to our already awesome table position across all the athletics meets. We would urge all students to look out for the team sheets in PE lessons next week and to get themselves signed up.”
