Our House Debating Competition runs through the year and sees Year groups compete for their House covering topics as diverse as the impact of Brexit, Black Lives Matter, Misogyny and Remembrance.

The final round will see Year 7s debate the topic of ‘Racism is not a problem in modern Britain…’ as part of our Focus Week on Windrush Day.

The rounds are judged by school governors and Greywood Trustees with points being accrued in each debate and through the year. The debates act as excellent practice for the annual  Regional Schools Speaking Competitions staged jointly by Arthur Price of :Lichfield and Michael Fabricant MP.

The current standings see:

  1. Seward – 352 points
  2. Darwin – 327 points
  3. Garrick – 282 points
  4. Johnson – 271 points

Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: The last round looks exciting with Darwin and Seward both n with a chance of first place, whilst Garrick and Johnson are fighting to avoid the wooden spoon. The skill of debating is an important one for later life and the quality of the teams is superb. We’ll make sure we provide an update of the final results later in the term.”
