Reece Pike (Y9) and Finn Pike (Y7) have been training in Norway over the last week having qualified for the ESSKIA National Schools Training Camp after their successes on the slopes for The Friary School’s Ski Team.
This has seen the boys travel to Norway for an intensive week of training and analysis to raise their performance levels and to push forward with national representation.
The boys are part of the school’s Elite Performers Scheme where those students competing at a national level are supported curriculum-wise as part of their school representation as we seek to combine school work with elite training and competition.
The boys have completed their own blog of their adventures which can be viewed here.
Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “We are thrilled that the boys have performed to such a fantastic level – and that the rest of the ski team have made a telling contribution to their journey. We are very much a school that looks to combine strong exam results with strong personal development and elite participation is something we can support wholeheartedly. The national squad is overwhelmingly made up of students from private schools but we believe that our students deserve to have the same opportunities in life and the same scope to reach the top. Life should be about talent and determination, not privilege, and we will always stand in our student’s corner to encourage and support them to be their very best.”
