On Tuesday 19 October we held our annual Y7 Dedication Service at Lichfield Cathedral. All of our Year pupils spent the afternoon in the splendid surroundings of our city’s famous landmark as we formally welcomed them to The Friary School.
During the service, we heard readings from new Year 7 pupils Rose Kirkby and Mylo Forbes who talked about their first impressions of The Friary. In contrast to this, we heard the experiences of our Head Boy and Head Girl, Dylan Wynne and Charlie Bannister, as they talked about their achievements and aspirations and the support they’ve received throughout their time at school. It must have been hard for the parents and grandparents present to imagine that their children in Year 7 will soon be as independent and grown up as Charlie and Dylan.
Throughout the service there were live performances from our Friary Music Department, including a wonderful rendition of ‘A Million Dreams’ from The Greatest Showman, performed by our school choir. This included a fantastic solo by Year 9 pupil Katie Harrison.
During his address, Mr Allman welcomed Year 7 to The Friary School and congratulated them for the positive start they have made to the year. Each pupil was encouraged to work hard and strive for success knowing that we will be there to support them each step of the way.
Lottie Hearn, Assistant Headteacher and event co-ordinator, said: “We were so pleased to see so many parents and grandparents attend the service. It seems like such a long time since we have been able to come together as a community and this is such a special event to formally marking the passing of the Year 7 children into secondary education.”
