Following on from the huge success of the Junior Maths Challenge last year, our Year 9 and 10 Maths enthusiasts have begun preparations for the Intermediate Maths Challenge in February 2022.
The Maths Challenge promotes lateral thinking skills to enable pupils to solve difficult mathematical problems. Not only will this help them to answer the more demanding questions for their GCSE examinations, but it also acts as preparation for university entrance tests, sat for more sought after mathematics courses.
In addition to this, pupils are developing teamwork skills and improving their ability to articulate concepts and ideas to each other. It is fascinating to see so many different approaches to solve a problem and to hear pupils explain their metacognition to one another.
Grant Portlock, Maths teacher and programme co-ordinator, said: “We have enjoyed a high turnout for the first two sessions, full of rich mathematical conversion and debate and we look forward to celebrating what will undoubtedly be another successful year.”
