Our Year 7s are being inspired to read through our new, fun and interactive reading initiative called Reading Rewards.
It is an online reading log and incentive program, which also has an app for smart phones. Students log the books they are reading and how long they have spent reading them on the website. Students will earn online badges when they reach a certain amount of reading minutes and can post online reviews of books as well as participate in our online Friary Reading Rewards blog.
We as the administrator for the Reading Rewards programme can see when pupils sign up, how often they are engaging with the program, which books they are reading and any reviews or blog entries that they post. We will be giving out rewards when pupils achieve the bronze, silver, gold and platinum badges.
Suzanne Fayed, scheme co-ordinator, said: “We are keen to encourage as much reading as possible because it widens vocabulary, improves comprehension skills, aids spelling and gives pupils creative ideas for writing. Reading is also a very enjoyable activity and if our promotion, encourage and rewards inspire this passion then we’ll be more than happy.”
