After making a bid to Lichfield’s Conduit Lands Trust, the Friary School’s application for funding to support a new student project has been accepted – and we are delighted !

The Conduit Lands Trust is a longstanding local charity dedicated to helping further the education of Lichfield’s young residents.

We are excited to say that our successful bid will be used to enrol a number our Sixth Form students in the Engineering Education Scheme, signing them up to the Gold Award EDT (Engineering Development Team).

This engaging program works with local companies to design and produce a working product which involves recycling, budgeting, displaying, pitching, presenting to engineers and employers of a company and competing against other schools for the awards.

The project is led by a specialist mentor and runs for 16 weeks, during which time students develop a whole host of invaluable skills such as team work, mentoring, delegation, time management, as well as problem solving focused upon the world of engineering.

Matt Allman, Headteacher, said: “We are very grateful to the Conduit Lands Trust for all their help and support in setting up this fantastic opportunity for our Sixth Form students who are aspiring towards a career in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) roles. The Trust is very much focused on helping young people from our city to shine and this project helps support them into a competitive and high value career.”
