We place a high priority on developing students reading skills as picking up a book can take you to another world, open your eyes to a million-and-one new things, and for teens help them hugely in their exams !

All exams are pitched to an appropriate reading age for 16 year olds so whether it is reading a passage from Shakespeare to answer questions on, analysing a written text expressing a view on the Holocaust, or reviewing a rage of literary types to form an argument in support of environment measure in Geography, a student has to be able to read to a good level.

We are also blessed with a superb Sixth Form body who are more than happy to help our new Year 7s at improving their reading .

This combination means our Year 7 Guided Reading programme kicks off next week with Sixth Form students taking the time to read to and work with a Year 7 counterpart.

The project not only improves reading, but also offers a chance to make new relationships, learn from someone who has already been there, and to bridge the gap from primary to secondary school.

Lottie Hearn, Assistant Headteacher and SENCO, said: โ€œThere is no doubt regular reading makes a huge difference in school and working with a younger student helps our Sixth Formers to access their Sixth Form Colours, adds to their CV, and helps their own communication skills. Weโ€™re looking forward to watching all of the students involved flourish.โ€
